In order to understand feminism, one must first look at the hegemonic masculinity that defines our culture. Looking at masculinity theory lets us see how femininity works in relation to it. And while feminist theory is often studied, little attention is given to the studies of the masculine ideals that dominate our culture.
The three panelists in this video discuss masculinity theory, as well as new research, papers and books they have recently worked finished. Nancy Dowd discusses masculinity theory in general, Michael Kimmel discusses research he has recently done on white supremacists and Fionnuala Ni Aolain speaks on demobilization and reintegration of soldiers.
